Ranong is located in the southern region of Thailand. The Marist community serves the Burmese migrants in this border town under the name of Marist Asia Foundation.
Marist Asia Foundation has been working in Ranong since 2006, supporting migrants through ministries of education, healthcare and pastoral care.
Members of the Community:
Fr. Hermes “Larry” Sabud, SM is from Agdao, Davao City. He is the first Filipino Marist to complete his formation and got ordained in the Philippines in 1993. He has worked in formation, parish, leadership and inter religious dialogue. He recently obtained a licentiate in Missiology at Divine Word Theological Seminary in Tagaytay, Manila. He is the Superior of the community.
Fr Gil Casio SM (left) is from Surigao del Sur. Gil is working with the health team, which cares for Burmese migrants suffering from HIV-AIDS disease.
Fr Frank Bird SM (right) from New Zealand tutors young Burmese adults who are doing university studies, and coordinates fundraising. He is the Director of Marist Asia Foundation (MAF).
Bro. Dennis O’brien, SM is from New Zealand. He arrived in May 2018. Bro. Dennis has been a missionary in Solomon Islands. And since then has been working in New Zealand until this year when he volunteered to go to Ranong, Thailand.
