Marists in Davao and Matti celebrated the feast of the Holy Name of Mary, the titular feast of the Society of Mary.
In Davao, about 200 Marists gathered at Teresian Daughters of Mary place to celebrate the feast day in September 11. The event started with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided by Fr. Denis Revi, SM, from Vanuatu and socius of the International Novitiate. Bro. Luis , FMS from Marist Ad Gentes community preached. At the beginning of the mass, the four branches and the Marist Laity group presented symbols that speak about their own identity, charism and ministry. After the mass, a simple and lovely meal was shared by everyone and a lively program with dances, songs and games which everybody participated with fun and creativity. The theme of the celebration was “Bearing the Holy Name of Mary from Fourviere to the world”.
In Matti, Digos City, the Marist community celebrated the feast together with the local people on September 12. The theme of the fiesta celebration was “The Holy Name of Mary reveals God’s love and mercy to the Family“. The feast day started with the celebration of the Holy Mass presided by Fr. Ronald Lunas, DCD, the Vicar for Clergy of the Diocese of Digos. He gave a good homily explaining the name and meaning of Mary. After the mass, the youth organized a simple program and games to entertain the visitors. Lunch was served to all who came for the feast day!
As we celebrate this feast day of the Holy Name of Mary, let all Marists “bear in mind that they belong by a gracious choice to the family of the blessed Mary, Mother of God, from whose name they are called Marists, and whom they have chosen from the beginning as their model and their first and perpetual superior.” ( SM Constitution # 228)
Cheers and happy feast day to all of us!
