Letter from France #4

Dear friends,

Bonjour from La Neylière!IMG_9409

Fr. Kevin and I are almost finished our Colinian Renewal Program.

We started the month of May with some input on the ‘Language of Mission’ given by Fr. Jan Hulshof SM, our former Superior General. He reminded us to be men of God as well as men of mission.

IMG_9110We then went to Germany for a three-day break. We visited our Marist confreres in Mappen, accompanied by Bro. Norbert. We also visited the beautiful Basilica of Cologne and were able to see the relics of the Three Kings at the Cathedral. We also visited two funding agencies regarding a possible partnership with our mission in Ranong.

After a few days of rest, we had our final retreat. We meditated on the theme of ‘mission’, as men called and sent by Jesus to be missionaries of mercy, hope and joy and to bring about the Kingdom of God on earth.

We then had the final leg of our pilgrimage to Marist places of origins. IMG_9513We visited the places of St. Marcellin Champagnat, the second Marist saint. We went to his birthplace in Le Rosey and celebrated Mass in the chapel built by Marist Brothers’ students from all over the world. We also went to La Valla where he started the first community of Brothers in 1817, and to the Hermitage where he lived from 1824 until his death in 1840.

On 14th June, Fr. John Hannan SM, our Superior General, will celebrate Mass to end the renewal program.

IMG_9396On behalf of Fr. Kevin and the other participants – Pio, Ludovico, Robert, Joel, Emanuele, Andreas, Francois, Constance and Martin – I would like to thank each of you for supporting us with your prayers and encouragement during these five months of renewal. I am also grateful for the support and help of the renewal team: Frs. Bern, Bernard, Ad and Jean Bernard, as well as the hardworking staff of La Neylière.

May you continue to pray for us as we go back to our mission and share the fruits of our enriching renewal experience!

Fr. Chris
