The Marist lay group Servi Mariae of the Society of Mary conducted a pre-Christmas outreach program to the youths of Balay sa Adunay Pangandoy last December 14, 2014 at Malagamot, Panacan, Davao City. The group held activities that encouraged the youths’ camaraderie among others. They also received Christmas gifts rooted from various individuals who rendered monetary support.
Brother Dennis Mabayao, founder of Balay sa Adunay Pangandoy, expressed gratitude over the simple event despite the “seasonal visits” they receive since its sponsors left the center six years ago.
“Naningkamot mi na makasugakod luyo sa mga challenges sa among kinabuhi. With your prayers, I really hope and pray that we can continue because it’s only the grace of God that keeps us going,” he said.
He also stated that their main concern now is the educational sustenance of the youths who are college students. Presently, it houses ten youths who are studying Bachelor of Science in Marine Technology, Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at MATS College of Technology, Assumption College of Davao, and Holy Cross of Davao College.
“As long as may mission, as long as naa ang mga bata, as long as nay ga-eskwela, we can survive,” Bro. Mabayao added.
Bro. Mabayao started to operate the Balay sa Adunay Pangandoy last 2004 with the Marist Fathers and Sisters. It is a youth rehabilitation center that serves homeless teenagers in conflict with the law, the homeless and even young people rejected by families. Aside from the financial support they get for their education, they also undergo “various spiritual formations”. It celebrated its ten years of mission last November 3, 2014.
