Servi Mariae holds outreach program to Davao youths

10570266_913462345331791_6834627992143484833_nThe Marist lay group Servi Mariae of the Society of Mary conducted a pre-Christmas outreach program to the youths of Balay sa Adunay Pangandoy last December 14, 2014 at Malagamot, Panacan, Davao City. The group held activities that encouraged the youths’ camaraderie among others. They also received Christmas gifts rooted from various individuals who rendered monetary support.

Brother Dennis Mabayao, founder of Balay sa Adunay Pangandoy, expressed gratitude over the simple event despite the “seasonal visits” they receive since its sponsors left the center six years ago.

“Naningkamot mi na makasugakod luyo sa mga challenges sa among kinabuhi. With your prayers, I really hope and pray that we can continue because it’s only the grace of God that keeps us going,” he said.

He also stated that their main concern now is the educational sustenance of the youths who are college students. Presently, it houses ten youths who are studying Bachelor of Science in Marine Technology, Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at MATS College of Technology, Assumption College of Davao, and Holy Cross of Davao College.

“As long as may mission, as long as naa ang mga bata, as long as nay ga-eskwela, we can survive,” Bro. Mabayao10849743_913462751998417_456442728954354448_n added.

Bro. Mabayao started to operate the Balay sa Adunay Pangandoy last 2004 with the Marist Fathers and Sisters. It is a youth rehabilitation center that serves homeless teenagers in conflict with the law, the homeless and even young people rejected by families. Aside from the financial support they get for their education, they also undergo “various spiritual formations”. It celebrated its ten years of mission last November 3, 2014.

Marist Staffs Spend a Day of Prayer and Reflection

IMG_4682On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, all the Marist Staffs of the District of Asia gathered together for a day of prayer and reflection at St. Peter Chanel Community, Punta Dumalag.

This recollection was blessed by the presence of the nine staffs from Digos, Dumalag and Bajada communities. This was so far the biggest gathering of our staffs.

Facilitated by Bro. Nino Memorial,sm and Bro. Roque Rebito, sm the gathering gave a venue for the staffs to know each other and share their own experiences as partners of the Marists in their mission.

As part of their reflection, the staffs were invited to reflect on their advent preparations and their special roles to the mission of their respective communities where they render their services.IMG_4720
