From December 16-24 begins the festive preparation of Christmas in the Philippines by celebrating Misa de gallo (dawn mass). Catholics in the Philippines go to Church as early as 3:00 AM to pray and praise God for nine days.
The prisoners of Ma-a city jail join this celebration. They look forward to attend the Misa de Gallo. They believe that it is the best thing to prepare before the Lord comes, ask God’s mercy and forgiveness and bring their petitions and needs to God.
Mass is celebrated at 5:00 AM and the prisoners prepare the liturgy and simple snacks after the mass. Celebrating misa de gallo started in the jail since 2003 and it has been practiced since.
This religious activity is possible because the BJMP administrators and personnel are very supportive and generous. They too are encouraged and also join the celebration. We are grateful for their support.
Faith is truly alive here.
