The Marist Fathers and Brothers of the District of Asia would like to greet you a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous of New Year.

As we say thank you and goodbye to the year 2103, we would like to express our deep gratitude to our Marist friends and benefactors for your overwhelming support in our mission here in Asia this year. It was indeed an encouraging gesture for us,

Marists.

We pray for a grace filled year and more happiness in your lives as we welcome the new year. We are also praying that you continue to welcome Jesus Christ in your lives, our light and our hope.

Through Mary’s inspiration, may we continue to support each other and continue to serve those people who are entrusted in our care. God bless us all!

“Misa de Gallo” at prison to prepare for Christmas

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFrom December 16-24 begins the festive preparation of Christmas in the Philippines by celebrating Misa de gallo (dawn mass). Catholics in the Philippines go to Church as early as 3:00 AM to pray and praise God for nine days.

The prisoners of Ma-a city jail join this celebration. They look forward to attend the Misa de Gallo. They believe that it is the best thing to prepare before the Lord comes, ask God’s mercy and forgiveness and bring their petitions and needs to God.

Mass is celebrated at 5:00 AM and the prisoners prepare the liturgy and simple snacks after the mass. Celebrating misa de gallo started in the jail since 2003 and it has been practiced since.

This religious activity is possible because the BJMP administrators and personnel are very supportive and generous. They too are encouraged and also join the celebration. We are grateful for their support.

Faith is truly alive here.

Novices 2014 welcomed in the District of Asia

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA simple welcome was given to 9 novices of the English Speaking International Novitiate in Davao City on 5th December. One novice has yet to arrive because of visa problem.  The novices come from Africa, Norway, Tonga, Fiji, and New Zealand. Fr. Pat Devlin, sm, the Superior of the District of Asia welcomed the new novices with great joy and enthusiasm reminding them to ‘feel at home and enjoy their Spiritual time in the Philippines.’

At the moment, the novices are doing their 2 months cultural orientation prior to their novitiate which will start in February 2014. Fr. Anggong Ingente, sm, the socius of the Novitiate is in charge of the orientation. So far, they have visited Marist communities around Davao and toured the city a bit.

We wish every blessing and prayer to the 10 Novices as they ‘taste God’ in the Novitiate.  Welcome and feel at home. Mabuhay!
