MMR’s Marist Centre officially opened

The newly built Marist Centre (MC) was officially opened last May 21, 2013. The said opening was attended by different Thai government authorities headed by Mr. Pritcha Buaking, the Director of the Ministry of Education of Ranong, Thailand.

The opening ceremony was started by the introduction of Marist Mission Ranong (MMR), as a catholic organization under the Suratthani Catholic Foundation, which was followed by the acknowledgment speech of Mr. Buaking. In his speech, Mr. Buaking thanked the whole MMR team for the wondrous service they extended to the Burmese migrant community  of Ranong

The next day after the opening ceremony, classes in highschool and kindergarten levels resumed.The students and teachers were very excited and delighted of the newly opened Marist Centre.  MMR’s Education, Health and Migrant Support Teams finally started to work together under one roof.



Marist Fathers take over Balay Pasilungan


OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABalay Pasilungan was founded in May 4, 1989. Fr. Pat Devlin,sm became the first Executive Director. In 1991 Fr. Rob Devlin,sm took over as Executive Director. The original intention of BAPAS was to provide daily shelter-not a permanent home. Street boys could come to BAPAS for dinner, a bath and nightly sleep. The boys could come and go.

In 1999 the Marist Fathers turnover the center to the Marist Sisters. Sr. Torika Wong,sm served as Executive Director. Under her guidance BAPAS changed from a drop-in center to a residential center. The Marist sisters took in charge of BAPAS from 1999-2005.

In 2005 administration of BAPAS was given to the Marianist Brothers. The late Bro. Richard Joyal, SM was the first Marianist to be the Executive Director. Under their guidance, BAPAS strengthened its educational approach.

On May 13, 2013 the Marist Fathers took in-charge again of the administration of BAPAS.  Long is assigned to be the Executive Director and Chris will take charge as Deputy Director. BAPAS is a corporate ministry of the Formation Community in Bangkal.

Fr. Fritz Arnold, SM joins International English Speaking Novitiate Formation Team

IMG_3350Father Fritz Arnold SM joined the International Marist English Language Novitiate community on Friday May 10. A member of the European Province he flew from his home Region of Germany where he has spent a few months holiday with family and confreres. Prior to that Father Fritz was a member of the Novitiate staff at Tutu, Fiji and while there also generously answered some invitations to preach retreats in various parts of the Pacific.

Fr. Fritz is a welcome addition to the Dumalag community making it an even more international group of confreres. Some of his ministries in earlier years include Provincial of the Province of Germany, Socius of the European novitiate and Vicar General. The academic dimension of his Marist life includes a focus on Mariology and Spirituality having written books on Mary and discipleship today and the Mystics. During the current novitiate Father Fritz will teach courses on Mariology, Prayer and the Spiritual Life and Religious Life according to Vatican
